Economist's Vote 2008

If you haven't seen the Economists 'Vote 2008' page, check it out.

Very interesting how they've mapped it onto an electoral-college system based on country.

Learning from local initiatives in Afghanistan

I just watched a rough-cut of a documentary a friend has made about the National Solidarity Program in Afghanistan.

It really is phenomenal.

The idea is straightforward and democratic from the ground up.

Rural villages apply to be part of the scheme and they elect local council representatives (in a village of 300, there would be a council of 30; 15 men and 15 women).

The Free World Project

A lot of Libertarian / Anarchists are moving into various towns/counties/states in the US to try to tip the voting balance ... the convention is to call these "the free county project", etc. If they ever meet fruition we should meet it with a proposal for a "free world".

Human Union Petition for a legitimate solution to the financial crisis

The Human Union Movement (www.thehumanunion.org) has started a petition targeted to the the political leaders of the G20 group of countries that are expected to meet in Washington on 15 November 2008 to discuss how to deal with the current financial crisis.

We demand they solve the crisis in a way according to the human legitimacy principle so that all humankind benefits and not only some countries, some groups or some economic classes, specially the richest.

Please sign the petition at http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/global-justice-and-the-world-financial-...

Uncomfortable Bedfellows?

It's unfortunate perhaps, but someone who seems consistently to be pushing this issue of a lack of democracy at the global level is Gaddafi.

I can't find his 'call to global democracy' but he makes some pretty solid criticisms of the international system.

> He said the U.N. General Assembly, at which virtually all of the world's states are > represented, should be the executive body of the global organization, not the > smaller Security Council.

> "Why are we asking for democracy in countries, when there is dictatorship in the U.N.?"

Wat? What?

What are we "selling" to the world, that would encourage people to join this site?

Our ABOUT link says this site is a "Portal for the Global Democracy Movement".

Using GlobalDemo

James has done more update and now would be a good time for everyone to use the site a bit to see if there are any "bugs" The "notification emails" were not working which James fixed handily. But we didn't know that because few posts were made. I really like how the site is coming together and look forward to "putting it out THERE". A bit of use would show us it is ready for the real world. Thanks, Bruce

Time to VOTE

Time to VOTE :>) I took the Liberty to ask Jim and Ted to join our Portal. Their vote world government could help us. Please “vote” and try out the process. This vote process is World Wide! It is quite possible this referendum process could assist us in our Aim of developing Global Democracy. Their Aim follows: The idea is to establish a democratic world government the only role of which should be to maintain world peace and to lead the way to universal disarmament.

Knowledge domains - a conceptual framework to suport reflection, debate and activism

Noting your themes the following health and social care model website and associated blog -

Onward - how?

This just in re Al Gores project. Al Gore recently launched a $300 million initiative aimed at rallying support for solving the climate crisis. The visiting Pope Benedict XVI has converted Vatican City into the first carbon-neutral state. And the UN and the Nobel Prize-winning Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change continue to work for a new treaty to curb global greenhouse gas emissions.

If we are serious, we must develop a fund raising system to "sell" our views to the World.

What ideas? Accounting must be auditable and independent as that is our creditability.

Thanks for all those who built and developed, this Portal

WOW this is super. I can see how it will come together, with groups taking specific topics to resolve. Groups for people of different locations to unite their Initiatives and develop solutions for our World.

I suspect we need to deliberate the start up and develop first goals and aims but that will be the outcome of our first discussions.

Beginning

Beginnings This is a simple draft of my idea to begin discussion. The World is one big argument, chuckle. So, we need to develop ways to resolve arguments. This leads to “peace”. War is simply an argument unresolved in my opinion. So perhaps we can pull together some of the “Great Truths” to use as a beginning. They can be changed and discarded of course if they fail to accomplish our Aim of discussion, deliberation, diplomacy and decisions. [Are these Aims?]

WPE and GlobalDemo varied AIMS - actions to be taken

I posted this to WPE and bring this to GlobalDemo for consideration.

It seems we have this same discussion over and over, with no resolution. I went back and looked at the Bulletin Board, thanks for whoever cleaned it up deleting old irrelevant messages. The old messages is "we need a world parliament" and that apparently is the only goal of WPE.

UN Initiative Group

There are many great ideas and concepts to further the goals and Aims of the UN. We people need to take part by advocating for the most desired of these. We can post them here and provide contact points and methods to advocate for these valuable additions. Rob has recently identified major initiatives, however I thnk we have "lost them" in the shuffle and it is hoped by utilizing this group we can easily find them and monitor their progress. Please join the UN Initiative Group and add your initiatives and support for the UN.

What we need to vote on so the Campaign for Global Democracy can exist and complete it's AIM

I think we need to refine this definition in the FAQ "How can we make proposals for the movement?"

The reality is that all movements are comprised of individuals and organisations centered on a core idea or principle. Ours is that we believe in democratising global governance. While we should debate our positions on everything regarding our movement, we cannot make decisions on behalf of the movement, no matter how democratic they seem to members of this website.
