What we need to vote on so the Campaign for Global Democracy can exist and complete it's AIM

I think we need to refine this definition in the FAQ "How can we make proposals for the movement?"

The reality is that all movements are comprised of individuals and organisations centered on a core idea or principle. Ours is that we believe in democratising global governance. While we should debate our positions on everything regarding our movement, we cannot make decisions on behalf of the movement, no matter how democratic they seem to members of this website.

Human Union Petition for a legitimate solution to the financial crisis

The Human Union Movement (www.thehumanunion.org) has started a petition targeted to the the political leaders of the G20 group of countries that are expected to meet in Washington on 15 November 2008 to discuss how to deal with the current financial crisis.

We demand they solve the crisis in a way according to the human legitimacy principle so that all humankind benefits and not only some countries, some groups or some economic classes, specially the richest.

Please sign the petition at http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/global-justice-and-the-world-financial-...

Uncomfortable Bedfellows?

It's unfortunate perhaps, but someone who seems consistently to be pushing this issue of a lack of democracy at the global level is Gaddafi.

I can't find his 'call to global democracy' but he makes some pretty solid criticisms of the international system.

> He said the U.N. General Assembly, at which virtually all of the world's states are > represented, should be the executive body of the global organization, not the > smaller Security Council.

> "Why are we asking for democracy in countries, when there is dictatorship in the U.N.?"

UN Initiative Group

There are many great ideas and concepts to further the goals and Aims of the UN. We people need to take part by advocating for the most desired of these. We can post them here and provide contact points and methods to advocate for these valuable additions. Rob has recently identified major initiatives, however I thnk we have "lost them" in the shuffle and it is hoped by utilizing this group we can easily find them and monitor their progress. Please join the UN Initiative Group and add your initiatives and support for the UN.

WPE and GlobalDemo varied AIMS - actions to be taken

I posted this to WPE and bring this to GlobalDemo for consideration.

It seems we have this same discussion over and over, with no resolution. I went back and looked at the Bulletin Board, thanks for whoever cleaned it up deleting old irrelevant messages. The old messages is "we need a world parliament" and that apparently is the only goal of WPE.

Very interesting how they've mapped it onto an electoral-college system based on country.

Learning from local initiatives in Afghanistan

I just watched a rough-cut of a documentary a friend has made about the National Solidarity Program in Afghanistan.

It really is phenomenal.

The idea is straightforward and democratic from the ground up.

Rural villages apply to be part of the scheme and they elect local council representatives (in a village of 300, there would be a council of 30; 15 men and 15 women).

Youth Realities Network

I submitted this program and it has not been approved. This is some time ago. If there is some question please ask me. This program is from Ghana and would like to expand its involvement with world Youth programs. It will take a bit to get the program active here of course. Are we still experimental? Bruce

Proportional Representation?

I've branched federali's discussion out here because I think it's an important one.

We spend a lot of time discussing on both a national and a global level whether proportional representation or first past the post/plurality voting methods (and there are others) are the best ways of organising a democratic system.

Questions/Suggestions

Halfiranian I got a email saying I received a PM from you but I can't seem to find where to access these.

As for this new website it is good in some respects but I think i'd prefer the old message board system but with way less sub-forums. There is simply not enough members or activity to split topics into sub-forums. So I'd rather not use this wall system but the old forum system with only a maximum of 2 to 3 sub-forums as it is much easier to navigate topics.

I have also added a group, for the World Citizens Association Australia. http://www.worldcitizens.org.au

Letters in "Latest Posts" and colours in "Recent comments"

What do the letters in front of the "Latest Posts" mean? I guess W is for "wall" and O for "organisations", but what about the rest?

And the colours of the "Recent comments"? Some are grey, some are green and some are red - what does it mean?

Help pages and tutorial

It would be a good thing to write some Help pages (in addition to the FAQ section, or enlarging the FAQ section) and a tutorial ("getting started").

I think it is a bit difficult for first-time visitors what they can do here, so a tutorial should include some examples of what the site can be used for.
