Frequently Asked Questions - Website

At the top of the page, below the login boxes, click 'create new account'. Alternatively, click here.

This website was designed with a limited budget (i.e. no money) so making it multi-lingual was considered a feature for the next version of the site.

We encourage members to establish regional groups in the 'groups section' where you are free to use whatever common language you wish.

Stars are the rating system on wall posts, films and library entries.

It enables visitors to sort these items on popularity. To rate an item, just click the number of stars (out of 10) that you think it deserves. If you want to change your rating, just click another number.

Go to the about page and use the form there. Thank you!

The groups section of GlobalDemo.org is the activist heart of the site.

Members in groups can have discussions, post events, submit polls/votes, collaborate on wiki pages and more.

It is entirely up to members how they use their groups.

There are three types of groups: regional, organisation and project.

  • Regional groups are for members based in a certain area (for example a city, country or continent) who want to organise and share activities. This is also the section for all non-English based discussions. You are encouraged to create groups here under your language group.
  • Organisation groups are for organisations working for global democracy. The idea is for them to be able to take advantage of all the features available at the site. If you would like a group here, you must demonstrate that your organisation has an established structure/statues, however informal these might be.
  • Project groups are for more ad-hoc groups who are working on a specific project. For example, if you want to create a group of members to collaborate on organising a conference or work on a film project, this is the place to do it.

Go to the groups page and at the top-right of the page, there is a red box where you can 'add group'.

You need to decide what category your group fits into, 'regional', 'organisation' or 'project'.

If you have any problems get in touch.

Group pages have a default layout, an orange description box, a few links and a list of the latest posts.

This is fully customizable.

If you have admin priviledges for a group, there will be a tab at the top called 'pages'.

Here you can create custom pages for your group as well as override the default page.

There's a tutorial video - not for globaldemo.org - that may help some of you.

The reality is that all movements are comprised of individuals and organisations centered on a core idea or principle.

Ours is that we believe in democratising global governance.

While we should debate our positions on everything regarding our movement, we cannot make decisions on behalf of the movement, no matter how democratic they seem to members of this website.

It was with this in mind that the Campaign for Global Democracy was established. A member association, any proposals can be made within the organisation and if agreed by the members, adopted. However, we cannot claim these positions necessarily represent the wider movement.

To use an analogy:

In the green/environmental movment, there is no decision-making body which says this is the position of the movement. However, the movement is constantly debating its positions and the individuals and organisations within the movement reflect these dynamic changes.

Certain organisations, let's take Greenpeace as an example, will have a decision-making structure and take positions on certain issues. While it is obviously an influential force in the green movement, Greenpeace would not argue that its positions necessarily represent those of the wider movement.

This is the position of every movement, and it is for this reason that we, as members of this site, cannot decide for the global democracy 'movement'.

None of this should stop us debating all of our issues, joining organisations/groups and mobilising towards our shared goal: democratising global governance.

Although this site was developed without funding, it is envisaged that the Campaign for Global Democracy will ensure that this website receives the necessary support, while maintaining its independence.

The rainbow flag has a long tradition throughout history as a symbol of diversity and inclusiveness.

It also has significance as the 'Pace' or 'Peace' flag seen in many demonstrations against war.

It was also chosen because of it's prominence in the global justice movement.
