GlobalDemo.org

The website GlobalDemo.org is a free of charge service provided by the Campaign for Global Democracy (CGD) a membership association registered in Holland. The goals of the membership association are to research, inform, and advocate for the idea of democratic global governance. The members aim to achieve these goals by supporting and building capacity of grassroots citizen and activist efforts while providing reference, communication and networking resources to the wider global democracy community, academia, policy makers and civil society in general.

The CGD developed GlobalDemo.org to offer a platform to the global democracy movement that will enable discussion and knowledge sharing between individuals, initiatives, organizations, scientists and politicians.

The primary goals are:
- uniting the global democracy movement
- promoting the idea of global democracy
- collecting and sharing global democracy related content

Privacy policy

This privacy policy sets out how the CGD (Campaign for Global Democracy) uses and protects information that you submit to the CGD when you use the website GlobalDemo.org and its directly associated domains.
With this privacy policy we attempt to make the usage of information that is submitted to GlobalDemo.org as transparent as possible.
This policy first and foremost applies to private information stored or held by the CGD. We are committed to ensuring that your privacy is protected.

By using GlobalDemo.org, you expressly consent to the information handling practices described in this privacy policy.

The CGD may change this policy from time to time by updating this page. You should check this page from time to time to ensure that you are happy with any changes. This policy is effective from 21 June 2009.

1. What do we collect

When you visit GlobalDemo.org you are submitting different types of information to us. Distinction can be made between different levels of consciousness, different purposes, and different privacy level.
Awarness:
You submit information you knowingly choose to disclose (for example a forum posts) and you also submit website use information (for example your IP address).
Purposes:
You submit information that you want to share with others (for example comments) and you also submit information that is necessary for the functionality of the website (for example your password).
Availability:
Information you submit will be visible to different people depending on the type of information, on your settings, on the role of the people viewing the information.

To you as a user it is most important to know to whom the information you submit is available and what they are allowed to do with this information. We therefore differentiate between information you knowingly choose to make publicly available and private information.

1.1 Publicly available Information

We provide a list of types of information that you may submit to GlobalDemo.org and thereby make publicly available:
- information you submit to the forums (posts), to the calender (events), on country pages (wikis), to the CGD group or to the website group (including all attachments).
- publicly available information from your account and profile settings: skype username, phone number, username, pictures and general information you put on your profile ("languages", "My views of global democracy", "More about me", "location").
We cannot be made responsible for a possible incompleteness of this list.

1.1.1 Responsibility and privacy of publicly available information:

You yourself are responsible for information that you make publicly available.

1.1.2 Partly restricted availability:

Although currently some of the publicly available information is only available to registered users (this includes among other things your skype username, your phone number, your "views of global democracy", "more about" you and languages) we can not guarantee the privacy of this information as a third parties (for example other registered users) could copy and publish that information.
In the long run we might provide you with further options to adjust the privacy settings of above mentioned contend types.

1.2 Private information

Other then the publicly available information we also collect and store the following private information in our database: - your surname, name - your email address - your account password - your personal messages send through the contact form - When you enter the website GlobalDemo.org, we collect your browser type and IP address. This information is gathered for all visitors of the website. In addition, we store certain information from your browser using 'cookies'. A cookie is a piece of data stored on the user's computer tied to information about the user.

2. What we do with the information we gather

We will not sell or lease your personal information to third parties. We will only distribute your personal information to third parties if we have your permission or are required by law to do so.
Publicly available information (as defined in chapter 1.1 of this privacy policy) will be stored in our database and made available on GlobalDemo.org.
Private Information (as defined in chapter 1.2 of this privacy policy) will be stored in our database and only be used as described in this chapter.
The following text explains how and when private information will be used or made available.

2.1 Email Address

We will store your email address in our database. You may change the provided email address by changing it in the account settings on your profile page. We will only use your email address according to the following rules:

2.1.1 personal contact form

Each time you send a personal message to another user via the contact form on the other users´s profile, we will send an email containing your emai address to the email address the other user has provided to us. Also we will send a copy of your message to the email account you provide on your account if you select this option. If you allowed personal contact form (account settings) other users can send you messages that we will forward to the email account you provide on your account.

2.1.2 subscriptions

If you subscribe to any newsletter or notifications we will send emails to your email address according to these subscribtions. You can control your subscriptions with the settings on your profil page ("notifications" tab).

The CGD or a representative may contact you via email to inform you about important updates.

2.1.5 Requesting a new password

We will send a new password to the email account you provide in your account settings if anybody (preferably you) requests this via the "request new password" page.

We might pass on your email address to a governmental authority if we are forced to by law.

2.2 Surname, Name

We will store your surname, name in our database. You may change the provided surname, name by changing it in the account settings on your profile page. We will not use or distribute this information unless we are required by law to do so.

We will store your password in our database. You may change the password by changing it in the account settings on your profile page. We will not use or distribute this information unless we are required by law to do so.

2.5 Cookies

We use persistent ID cookies to confirm that users are logged in. These cookies terminate once the user logs out. You can remove and block cookies using the settings in your browser if you want to disable this convenience feature.

2.6 Accessibility to information stored in the database

Available log records, and all data stored on our servers may be accessed by our system administrators. We may use your IP address to help diagnose problems with our server, to tailor site content and to format the site and software to user needs, and to generate aggregate statistical reports. We may use aggregate visitor data to prepare publicly displayed reports regarding the traffic on individual posts, site popularity rankings, and referrers that visitors use to access individual blogs.

3. How and how long we store information

@Admin: would be nice to explain who has access to the information, if it is stored encrypted, etc. Maybe we should also explain the technical backgroud: drupal, which modules we use etc. Also we need to explain if it is possible to delete information, who is allowed to etc.
Even after removal, copies of submitted information may remain viewable in archived or/and cached pages.

4. Disclaimer

The CGD believes that maintaining and preserving the privacy of user data is an important value. This privacy policy, together with other policies, resolutions, and actions by the CGD, represents a committed effort to safeguard the security of the limited user information that is collected and retained in our database. Nevertheless, the CGD cannot guarantee that user information will remain private. We acknowledge that, in spite of our committed effort to protect private user information, determined individuals may still develop data-mining and other methods to uncover such information and disclose it. For this reason, the CGD can make no guarantee against unauthorized access to information provided when using GlobalDemo.org.

5. Links to other websites

GlobalDemo.org contains links to other websites of interest. However, once you have used these links to leave our site, you should note that we do not have any control over that other website. Therefore, we cannot be responsible for the protection and privacy of any information, which you provide whilst visiting such sites and such sites are not governed by this privacy statement. You should exercise caution and look at the privacy statement applicable to the website in question.

6. Children’s Privacy

The service provided with GlobalDemo.org is intended for adults and we will not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 years old. If you are a parent or legal guardian of a child under age 13 who has become a member of GlobalDemo.org, please contact our administrator to notify us of a suspected violation. This is to protect the children’s privacy.

7. Requesting, changing or removing information

If you are citizens of the EU you have the right to request details of personal information according to the applicable law following the Directive 95/46/EC, which we hold about you.
